Avoidance of Food Waste from a Grocery Retail Store Owner’s Perspective

The aim of this paper is to examine the causes food waste and potential prevention strategies from a grocery retail store owner’s perspective. We therefore conducted case study in German region through semi-structured expert interviews with owners. From collected responses, we applied qualitative content analysis. results indicated that owners try avoid as incurs financial loss for them directly affects personally, opposed managers supermarket chains who receive fixed salary. main stores surveyed are expiration dates, spoilage, consumer purchasing behavior, over-ordering products. most appropriate developed by those based on owners’ experience their own management style, such optimization sales strategies, including precise planning, accurate ordering, timely price reductions soon-to-be-expiring redistribution surpluses donations banks, employees, animal feed further helps reduce amount waste, but not loss. This enhances literature revealing have ability willing successfully implement enforce stores.
